Donald C. Fiander MD, FRCSC
After receiving his medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1977 Dr. Fiander interned at St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto. He completed his ophthalmology training at McGill University, Montreal and subsequently was a research fellow in retinal diseases at Montefiore Hospital Medical Center, Bronx, New York.
Dr. Fiander is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, a skilled micro-surgeon and a highly-respected specialist in diseases and surgery of the retina. Following residency Dr Fiander was on Faculty at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He moved to Michigan in 1992.
Keenly interested in ophthalmic lasers, Dr. Fiander has been active in the treatment of retinal diseases. He has treated patients with retinovasular disease for more than 25 years and has a wealth of experience in photocoagulation using argon, krypton, dye, and diode lasers for treatment of retinal disorders as well as the use of neodymium yag, excimer, and holmium lasers for other ophthalmic problems.
He has extensive experience in the management of age related macular degeneration using photodynamic therapy with Visudyne and the use of anti vascular endothelial growth factors in the management of wet age related macular degeneration and other retinovascular diseases.
Dr. Fiander is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
